Professional Artist Qualification

Since 1980, IAA/AIAP believes that an artist can be considered professional not only if he or she or they earns a living by the practice of art, but also if any one of the following or similar criteria can be applied to him, her or them.

If one has a diploma in fine or applied art: painting, sculpture, or graphics, or in another areas considered by the cultural criterias of his country, to be within the traditional domain of the visual fine arts.


OR, If one teaches in an fine art school


Or, If one exhibits his works frequently or if they are otherwise seen by a large public, for example through:
- public collections
- public orders or commissions
- monographs, catalogues, articles about his work
- If one has won important national or international prizes
- If one is a member of an Art Academy
- If one is recognized by a consensus of opinion of the professional artists of his country, even though one may possess none of the foregoing qualifications : referrals required.

- AND If one can provide a physical mailing address residing in the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

- AND provide a website where your work can be viewed and include an artist statement

- AND One must: Agree to abide by the IAA principles of inclusivity, diversity and respect for all human beings.”
